About the Show:

For the final mainstage production of the summer, acclaimed director, playwright, and physical theatre virtuoso Andy Massingham brings his signature blend of clown, chaos, and heart to the world of Anton Chekhov.

Any Idiot Can Face a Crisis reimagines six of Chekhov’s comedic short plays in a wildly inventive, high-energy mash-up staged with music, mayhem, and Massingham’s unmistakable touch. Expect laugh-out-loud moments, layered performances, and a theatrical dreamscape that delights newcomers and Chekhov fans alike.

No Chekhov Degree Required

Whether you’re new to Chekhov or a longtime devotee, you’ll find something to love in this fresh, hilarious take on the timeless tales of love, confusion, longing—and life’s absurdity. With themes that resonate across eras and characters that feel achingly familiar, this is theatre that entertains while holding a mirror up to the beautifully bizarre human condition.

About the Director:

Andy Massingham is a Dora Mavor Moore and Prix Rideau Award–winning actor, director, and playwright known for last season’s runaway hit The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (Revised) (Again). This is his fourth season with Theatre on the Ridge, and his creative genius continues to push boundaries and win hearts.
