About the Play:

Étaples, France – 1918. Amid the devastation of the Great War, three Canadian nurses—Christy, Maggie, and Bab—have traveled across the Atlantic to care for the wounded. As the front line creeps closer to their field hospital, they find strength in each other and the lives they touch.

Through shared stories, laughter, letters, and loss, the women build a powerful sisterhood that reveals courage, resilience, and hope in a world undone by war. Bluebirds is a moving tribute to the women who served behind the scenes—and on the front lines—of history.

About the Playwright:

Vern Thiessen is one of Canada’s most celebrated playwrights, awarded the Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama and internationally recognized for his works including Vimy. His plays have been produced across five continents and translated into multiple languages.

About the Director:

Iain Moggach brings a dynamic vision to Bluebirds. Known for his leadership as Artistic Director of Theatre by the Bay (2018–2024), Moggach has a rich background directing a wide range of productions across Ontario. His passion for storytelling and community-centered theatre makes him the perfect guide for this compelling historical drama.
